Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

The Catholic Church has complete faith in the words of Jesus at the Last Supper when, he said, “This is my Body” over the bread and , “This is my Blood” over the wine.  As Catholics we receive the Lord in Holy Communion, take the Blessed Sacrament to the sick and housebound and we also pray to and adore his presence in  this Most Holy Sacrament.    Formal adoration goes on each week in the parish church unless otherwise announced from 10.30 a.m. -8p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays and from 10. 30a.m. Wednesday morning   to 8p.m.  on Friday night continuous.    Do come and adore the Lord  or better still join the Adorers in doing an hour each week.    Contact Breda Daly.  063, 81609 or any priest of the parish.

“This is my body.” (Matt 26: 26).

Prayer to Jesus before the Blessed Sacrament

Jesus, each time I look at the sacred Host,
sancify my eyes,
that they may close more and more
to all that is merely earthly.

Jesus, each time I look at the sacred Host,
send a ray of divine light into my soul,
that I may better know you and myself.

Jesus, each time I look at the sacred Host,
send a flame of divine love into my heart
to consume everything in it
that is displeasing to You
and to set it all on fire with Your love.

“Adoro te devote, latens Deitas”

“Adoro te devote, latens Deitas”

Now and in eternity
may my only desire be to contemplate
the infinite beauty of Your divine countenance
which delights the angels.

Amen.

Holy Cross Prayer Group meets at 8pm on Tuesdays.

Hymns, prayer and reflection upon the word of God form part of this inspiring group. Treat yourself to some” sacred space” to a quiet, reflective hour. You are welcome to come along. The group leader is Canon Donal O’Mahony, P.P. 063/81319.

And when they had entered, they went up to the upper room, where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot and Judas the son of James. All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers. (Acts 1: 13-15)

Divine Mercy

Prayer to Saint Faustina by Pope St. John Paul II

And you, Faustina, a gift of God to our time, a gift from the land of Poland to the whole Church, obtain for us an awareness of the depth of Divine Mercy; help us to have a living experience of it and to bear witness to it among our brothers and sisters. May your message of light and hope spread throughout the world, spurring sinners to conversion, calming rivalries and hatred, and opening individuals and nations to the practice of brotherhood. Today, fixing our gaze with you on the Face of the Risen Christ, let us make our own your prayer of trusting abandonement and say with firm hope:”Jesus, I trust in You!”.

Legion of Mary Prayer

Confer, O Lord, on us, who serve beneath the Standard of Mary, that fullness of faith in you, and trust in her, to which it is given to conquer the world. Grant us a lively faith, animated by charity, which will enable us to perform all our actions from the motive of pure love of you, and ever to see you and serve you in our neighbor; a faith, firm and immovable as a rock, through which we shall rest tranquil and steadfast amid the crosses, toils and disappointments of life; a courageous faith which will inspire us to undertake and carry out without hesitation great things for your glory and for the salvation of souls; a faith which will be our Legion’s Pillar of Fire – to lead us forth united – to kindle everywhere the fires of divine love – to enlighten those who are in darkness and the shadow of death – to inflame those who are lukewarm – to bring life to those who are dead in sin; and which will guide our own feet in the way of peace; so that – the battle of life over – our Legion may reassemble, without the loss of anyone, in the kingdom of your love and glory.

Amen.

Ecumenical Prayer Group

20/02/2015

PrayerMeeting_logo

Join with us every third Sunday of the month at 7.30pm as we reflect on Sacred Scripture, pray and sing together with Ministers and members of various Christian denominations. Stay on afterwards for a cup of tea and biscuit for, as the Lord said: “Where two or three gather in my name, there I am among them”. (Matt 18: 20).

Pope Francis participating in an ecumenical prayer service with the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew I.

For me, ecumenism is a priority. Today there is an ecumenism of blood. In some countries they kill Christians for wearing a cross or having a Bible and before they kill them they do not ask them whether they are Anglican, Lutheran, Catholic or Orthodox. Their blood is mixed. To those who kill we are Christians. We are united in blood, even though we have not yet managed to take necessary steps towards unity between us and perhaps the time has not yet come. Those who kill Christians don’t ask for your identity card to see which Church you were baptized in. Unity is a gift that we need to ask for.
