Holy Cross Parish Charleville

Diocese of Cloyne, County Cork, Ireland

Pastoral Council Update

29/02/2016

CHARLEVILLE PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL

The Pastoral Council had a full agenda for their meeting held on the 16th February. Among the items discussed was the Novena to mark the Year of Mercy.

The Novena will take place in Holy Cross Church Charleville from the 6th to the 14th of September. A number of preachers and speakers have already made commitments to be present, and the theme for each day is presently being drawn up. This Novena is for the whole family and the whole community; it will deepen our faith and give us hope for the future. A  Novena leaflet will be published in the near future.

At the request of the Dioceses, Parish Pastoral Councils are requested to have their own constitution. The first draft for Charleville Parish Pastoral Council constitution was presented and discussed at the meeting.

Fr. Tom Naughton gave a report on the Parish Website competition that took place during catholic schools week. He acknowledged the interest shown by the Schools, Pupils/ Students. The young people had very interesting observations to make, and we hope that some of their ideas would be implemented in the future.

Attention was drawn to the 24 HOURS ADORATION FOR THE LORD that will take place in St. Mary’s Church Mallow on Friday the 4th of March beginning at 5pm. People are invited to join in the Adoration, and go to confession during the hours arranged.

The matter for Holy Communion for any member of the congregation who is celiac was also discussed, attention was drawn to the fact that the host available is of low gluten and not gluten free. The diocese has recommended that the best solution is to make the Sacred Chalice available to all the people.

A decision has being made to bring all Church collections indoors, this new arrangement will commence on the weekend of the 12th / 13th of March.
